Animation

Animation

I began my journey through the world of animation back in 2022 when my first child was born (Lou). We put on these videos for her every once in a while to help develop her sensory abilities.


I started a YouTube channel as a fun side project, and as a means to help me have the motivation to learn this skill. I utilized and learned Adobe After Effects and Blender to keyframe various animations.


I prefer Adobe After Effects for the bulk of my animations and will resort to Blender for more complicated animations (usually 3D). I will also do very simple animations/motion graphics in Davinci Resolve.

Standard Keyframing

Keyframing is the core to any form of animation. Mastering the standard keyframe is how you can build your skill in the art of animation. It's hard starting off, because you don't naturally think of animation as a point-to-point method, but instead, as something more fluid.


In my opinion you must pay close attention to the small details to make a visually appealing animation. It's not just about the keyframes, but it's about the speed, the angle, and the timing. All of this is done with meticulous adjustments to ramping and position.

Rigging

Rigging is a skill that is incredibly niche. It's something that requires a great deal of time and an understanding of building content on the frontend, i.e. the thing that is being rigged.


While I do not have an abundance of experience in rigging, I have successfully rigged characters and fully animated them for my sensory channel on YouTube.


This is a skill that I am considering diving further into. Because it is very tedious and time consuming work, I have only scratched the surface of this skill.


I do all of my rigging (2D and 3D) in Blender.

Animations

3D Rigging and Animation
